Computer for Revit and Archicad

BIM applications work differently from rendering software. Most model operations use one or a few cores, so what matters most is a high processor clock speed, enough RAM and a stable graphics card for working on several monitors.

What to look for

What drives performance

A processor with high clock speeds

Regenerating views, editing elements and working on a large model depend mainly on single-core speed. For Revit and Archicad a processor with high clock speeds works better than many slower cores. Additional cores help with rendering, export and visualisation software.

RAM for large models

Model size, linked files and open views quickly increase memory use. 32 GB is enough for smaller projects; we recommend 64 GB for large buildings, models linked with other disciplines and running Enscape or Twinmotion alongside Revit.

Graphics card: GeForce or RTX PRO

Revit and Archicad themselves do not need a very powerful card. The choice depends on what you run alongside: for visualisation in Enscape or Twinmotion a GeForce RTX with 16 GB works better, while an RTX PRO card with certified drivers makes sense in offices that also use engineering software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.

Working on a central model

When worksharing in Revit or using Teamwork in Archicad, a fast NVMe drive for local copies and a stable network connection matter. We configure team workstations identically, which simplifies service and hardware replacement.

CADCAD workstation with an RTX PRO card Core Ultra 9 285K RTX PRO 4000 · 24 GB 128 GB DDR5 · 2 TB NVMe from€5,260

Start Intel with high clock speeds is enough for working in Revit or Archicad alone. We recommend Studio and Studio Intel if you also prepare visualisations. The CAD configuration with an RTX PRO card is intended for offices that also use engineering software.

Frequently asked questions
Does Revit use many cores?

Only partly. Most modelling operations use one or a few cores, so high clock speed matters more. Many cores speed up rendering, export and some calculations, so a processor with 8-24 cores and high clock speeds is a sensible compromise.

How much RAM for Revit?

32 GB is enough for smaller projects. For large models, linked files and running visualisation software at the same time we recommend 64 GB.

Does Archicad need an RTX PRO card?

It is not necessary. Archicad works well on GeForce RTX cards. We recommend RTX PRO cards when an office uses software that requires certified drivers or needs several cards in one workstation.
